The Waterhoenlaan project consists of two long buildings with 4 to 5 floors on either side of the street, housing a total of 77 residential units as well as an underground parking garage. The structure follows a traditional solid construction method: load-bearing masonry for the vertical elements and concrete slabs (wide slab floors) for the horizontal elements. In walls subjected to high loads, the masonry is replaced by concrete walls. The concrete slabs are designed as hyperstatic elements (continuous over several spans), which positively affects both the slab thickness and deflection. The partition walls between dwellings are doubled for acoustic reasons. One of the two buildings (on the west side) includes an underground parking garage. This garage is constructed as a closed concrete tank. The foundation slab and basement walls are 30 cm thick to ensure waterproofing. The loads from the superstructure are transferred to the foundation via concrete beams and columns. Due to the soft upper soil layer (10 m), both buildings are founded on a grid of soil-compacting screw piles.
