In the heart of the European district stands a striking S-shaped building from the 1960s. A renovation with an eye towards a sustainable future aims to create an innovative office environment, with particular attention to the well-being of the users, the characteristics of the existing architecture, and an improved relationship with the surroundings. ATAMA respects the repetitive rhythm of the façade, constructed from prefabricated concrete elements, and focuses primarily on interventions within the building's interior and the inner area of the city block. To support this transformation, five key structural interventions are being implemented. First, the central core is being removed to open up the floorplates and allow for double-height volumes at ground level, creating a generous "city room". Secondly, the original double row of awkwardly positioned columns is being replaced with a more efficient layout, improving the flexibility and usability of the office floors. To ensure the stability of the new configuration, the existing corner cores are being reinforced. In addition, two compact rooftop office levels are being added, introducing new terrace spaces. Finally, a foundation system as a big rigid waffle is being installed to optimize load distribution across the structure.
